Biography
Gustavo
Fares is a visual artist from Argentina, residing in the United States
since 1985.
Fares holds a Professor Degree in Painting and Drawing from the "Escuela
Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredon" in Buenos Aires,
Argentina. He has undertaken post- graduate studies at the "Escuela
Superior de Bellas Artes Ernesto de la Carcova" in the same city.
After settling in the United States, Fares completed a Master in Painting
and Lithography at West Virginia University, a Ph. D. Certificate
in Cultural Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. There he received
grants from the Tinker Foundation and an Andrew W. Mellon Pre-Doctoral
Fellowship. He has shown his paintings in the United States, Argentina
and Mexico, and presented lectures at professional fora.
In his works, Fares uses traditional materials, such as oil and acrylic
on canvas or paper, as well as computer generated images. Fares’ current
visual interests include the exploration of imagery linked to Latin
American marginal representations of the Sacred, an examination and
continuous study of the limits and possibilities of the medium of
painting, and a visual exploration and rendition of topological spaces
as they relate to the philosophy of language.
